Baltimore Summit Focuses on Minority-owned Manufacturers

Saw this interesting news blip, straight out of Charm City:

A minority business summit is taking place in Baltimore.

Organizers are calling Wednesday’s event the first-ever summit on advanced minority manufacturing in the mid-Atlantic region.

Mayor Catherine Pugh and Maryland Lt. Gov. Boyd Rutherford are scheduled to attend the summit.

It’s designed to assist and support minority manufacturers and minority companies by connecting them to new opportunities.

We’re happy to hear this is taking place today. The Alliance for American Manufacturing looked at the role deindustrialization played in African American communities, and our researcher found troubling results.

Baltimore, in fact, is an example of what happens when an inner city’s economy hollows out:

There have been hints of revival out of that city. Hopefully, today’s summit brings more.
